What is Dual Credit?
Texas City High School's Dual Credit Program allows rising junior and senior high school students to enroll in college-level courses for credit prior to high school graduation. Most courses are taught at Texas City High School during the regular school day by high school faculty who have earned adjunct instructor status at College of the Mainland. Credits earned through dual credit are to be applied to a student's high school graduation requirements and in most cases, transferred to other colleges and universities.
In addition to earning college credit, dual credit courses offer our students several benefits:
- A smoother transition between high school and college
- First-hand exposure to college-level work while still in high school
- A chance to complete their associate's or bachelor's degree faster
- An opportunity to begin their freshman year of college with college credits while they also earn credits toward high school graduation
